Netherlands Removals Health and Safety Policy
Netherlands Removals is committed to providing a healthy and safe working environment for all employees, contractors, customers, and members of the public who may be affected by our activities. This policy sets out our approach to managing health and safety in all areas of our removals and relocation services, including packing, loading, transport, storage, and delivery.
Our aim is to prevent accidents, injuries, and work-related ill health, promote safe behaviour, and ensure that health and safety considerations are integrated into every stage of our moving operations.
Management Commitment and Responsibilities
The management of Netherlands Removals accepts overall responsibility for health and safety performance across the company. We will provide appropriate resources, information, instruction, and training to ensure that work can be carried out safely and without risk to health.
Managers and supervisors are responsible for implementing this policy in their areas of control. This includes planning work safely, carrying out risk assessments, enforcing safe systems of work, monitoring performance, and taking prompt action to address any unsafe conditions or practices.
Every employee has a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions. Employees must follow safety procedures, use equipment correctly, report hazards and incidents, and cooperate with any measures put in place to improve safety.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
We will identify, assess, and manage the risks associated with our removals operations. This includes the handling and transport of furniture and personal belongings, use of vehicles and lifting equipment, work at height, and work in customers homes or business premises.
Suitable and proportionate risk assessments will be carried out for routine tasks and for non-routine or complex moves. The findings of these assessments will be used to develop safe systems of work, method statements, and guidance that are communicated to all relevant employees.
Risk assessments will be reviewed regularly and whenever there are significant changes in our operations, equipment, premises, or relevant legislation.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is a key part of removals work and presents a potential risk of injury if not managed correctly. Netherlands Removals will minimise manual handling risks by careful planning of each move, using appropriate equipment, and applying safe lifting techniques.
Employees will receive training in safe manual handling, including team lifting, use of lifting aids, and correct posture and movement. We will provide suitable equipment such as trolleys, dollies, lifting straps, ramps, and protective materials to reduce physical strain and protect belongings.
All equipment will be inspected regularly and maintained in safe condition. Defective equipment must be reported immediately and taken out of service until it has been repaired or replaced.
Vehicle Safety and Driving Standards
Our vehicles are central to our service and must be operated safely at all times. Netherlands Removals will ensure that vehicles are roadworthy, regularly inspected, and properly maintained according to manufacturer guidance and relevant regulations.
Drivers will receive training in safe driving techniques, load security, route planning, and customer care. Loads must be evenly distributed, secured with suitable restraints, and checked before departure and during long journeys where appropriate.
Drivers are required to obey traffic laws, adhere to speed limits, and drive with courtesy and awareness of other road users. Fatigue management, rest breaks, and fitness to drive will be strictly observed. The use of mobile phones or in-vehicle technology while driving must comply with all legal requirements and company rules.
Work at Customer Premises
Our teams often work inside customers homes and workplaces. We recognise our duty to protect customers, their families, employees, visitors, and the general public while we operate on their premises.
Before starting work, the team leader will assess access routes, stairs, lifts, parking areas, and any site-specific hazards. Where necessary, protective coverings will be used to prevent slips, trips, and damage to property. Heavy or awkward items will be moved using appropriate equipment and sufficient personnel.
We will maintain clear communication with customers about timing, access, and any safety considerations. Areas of work will be kept as tidy as reasonably practicable, and any spills, debris, or obstacles will be addressed promptly.
Training, Information, and Supervision
Netherlands Removals will provide comprehensive induction and ongoing training relevant to each role. This may include manual handling, vehicle and driver safety, use of equipment, working at height, emergency procedures, and customer service.
Employees will be informed about the companys health and safety procedures, risk assessments, and expectations for safe behaviour. Supervisors will monitor work activities, provide guidance, and address unsafe practices immediately.
We encourage open communication on health and safety issues. Employees are expected to raise concerns or suggestions for improvement without fear of criticism or reprisal.
Accident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, incidents, injuries, and near misses must be reported as soon as possible to a supervisor or manager. Accurate records will be maintained and used to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for improvement.
We will investigate significant incidents to understand what happened and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Lessons learned will be shared with relevant employees and, where appropriate, incorporated into training and procedures.
Emergency procedures will be in place for foreseeable situations such as fire, serious injury, vehicle breakdown or collision, and hazardous conditions at customer premises. Employees will be briefed on these procedures and their roles in an emergency.
Health, Welfare, and Wellbeing
We recognise that health and safety includes both physical and mental wellbeing. Netherlands Removals will take reasonable steps to manage workload, working hours, and physical demands so that employees can perform their duties safely and sustainably.
Suitable welfare provisions, including access to rest breaks, drinking water, and sanitary facilities, will be ensured as far as is reasonably practicable in the context of our mobile operations.
Employees are encouraged to report health conditions that may affect their ability to carry out certain tasks safely so that suitable adjustments or alternative duties can be considered.
Continuous Improvement and Policy Review
Netherlands Removals is committed to continuous improvement in health and safety performance. We will set realistic objectives, monitor progress, and review our practices regularly to reflect changes in our services, operational areas, and legal requirements.
This Health and Safety Policy will be reviewed at least once a year, and sooner if significant changes occur in our business activities or applicable regulations. Updated versions will be communicated to employees and made available to customers and other interested parties on request.
By working together, following the procedures set out in this policy, and maintaining a culture of safety and respect, Netherlands Removals aims to deliver every move as safely and efficiently as possible.
